THE NORTHUMBRIAN JACOBITE TRAIL GUIDE

The Northumbrian Jacobite Trail Guide – a pull-out map, featuring walks, drives and places to visit that have associations with the Risings of 1715 and 1745 - was published in June 2005, funded by Kerr-McGee (courtesy of a Member of the Northumbrian Jacobite Society) and Historic Dilston. The Trail Guide was conceived and planned by Frances Dickinson, who provided the images and wrote the text. John Nicholls MBE edited the text and lent valuable assistance to the project. The portraits, relics, paintings and engravings featured on the Trail are by Duncan Davis, professional photographer and Hon. Member of the Northumbrian Jacobite Society.

The Trail Guide, which is produced in full colour and designed to a large-scale A3 format, folds down into a slim plastic wallet and sells at £2.00. Those wishing to purchase the Trail Guide by post should send a cheque for £2.50 (to include p&p), made payable to The Northumbrian Jacobite Society, to Mr G. W. Hunter, Hon. Treasurer, The Fifteen (The Northumbrian Jacobite Society), 9 Sherwood, Murton Village, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE27 0LT. For anyone wishing to purchase the Trail Guide by post without the wallet, the cost will be £2.00.

PLAQUES FOR THE NORTHUMBRIAN JACOBITE TRAIL

The publication of the Trail Guide was the first stage in a project aimed at creating more public awareness of Northumberland’s Jacobite heritage. The second stage of the project is to erect a number of plaques at key Jacobite monuments in the county, in particular the Roman milestone on Waterfalls Hill that marks the spot where Lord Derwentwater met up with Thomas Forster and other gentlemen on 6 October 1715. The Northumbrian Jacobite Society continues to be instrumental in this enterprise and would be very grateful to anyone who might feel able to make a donation (however small) towards this or other appropriate plaques. Cheques should be made payable to The Northumbrian Jacobite Society and sent to Mr G. W. Hunter, Hon. Treasurer, The Fifteen (The Northumbrian Jacobite Society), 9 Sherwood, Murton Village, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE27 0LT.
